Devonport Slams!

The 2011 Slam kicked off in Tasmania late last week, with 17 keen slammers braving wintry weather to contest the North-West Tasmanian regional heat. In the lovely ambience of the Devonport Regional Gallery (huge thanks to Kim and Astrid!) the competition was fierce as the topics ranged across the spectrum from same-sex marriage to trains to meteorology to fatherhood. After a slam-off to determine second place, Geoff Miller took the night's honours with a convincing win, while teenagers Lauren Hay and Lauren Butler landed in second and third place respectively.

The competition moves onto Launceston on Sunday August 28th with the Northern heat, being held as part of the Junction Arts Festival (http://www.junctionartsfestival.com.au/). Plans are still under way for a Southern heat to take place in Hobart; details will be posted on this site as soon as this is settled.
