Gosford Slam Heat, NSW
The Gosford heat was held on Thursday, 14th October at Gosford City Library and was hosted by Australian Poetry Slam founder, Miles Merrill.
Drow Smith was the runner up and 27 year old, Dave Thepsini won the heat.
Dave plays a variety of instruments and records hip-hop music. His favourite artists include Talib Kweli, Mos Def & KRS-One. Though Dave is pretty busy with his family and work, he recognises the importance for Australians to take time to write and perform their own work.
"Those that are creative should find ways to take their work to the masses. There is surely a lot of quality creative work out there that will never see the light of day."
Dave says he found performing his own writing as "powerful" and that "poem/lyrics that [he] chose to perform fared very well in spoken-word form".
Drow and Dave will both compete in Sydney at the NSW State Final in November and Dave says he can't wait!
