Who will this nationwide search unearth in 2017?

1 000 poets, 20 000 live audience, 60 events across Australia - all rise to a thunder clap at Sydney Opera House. Judged by randomly chosen members of the crowd, one person will get the chance to perform their own words at the Ubud Readers & Writers Festival in Bali, Byron Writers Festival and Sydney Writers Festivals in 2018 in a tour worth $11k + a published manuscript by Pitt Street Poetry and a Bundanon Trust writers' retreat.

Performing writers from every region of NSW converge upon the State Library seizing the microphone and electrifying the audience. From Byron to Albury, Glebe to Moree the voice of a state comes to life in one poetry packed night.

You will choose two wordsmiths to represent NSW in the National Final at Sydney Opera House the next night.

Sydney Slam Final

Join us for a huge celebration of the slam scene in Sydney with poets from Glebe, Rockdale, Parramatta, Newtown, Double Bay and Canada Bay.

Judged by randomly chosen members of the crowd, this is a night of wild words where you can click your favourite poet to victory and boo the judges if they give the wrong score. 

The three winning wordsmiths will go on to represent Sydney in the NSW Final at the State Library of NSW the next night.

SA Poetry Slam - State Final

Doors open 7:30pm for 8pm start.

Venue: Goodwood Institute Theatre
166 Goodwood Road, Adelaide SA

Poets have 2 minutes to speak, scream, howl, whisper or sing their original poem for a chance at state and national glory.

The competition has been incredible again this year and the final promises to be huge and of the highest quality. Ten heat finalists go head to head for $600 in cash prizes and the two spots in the national final of the Australian Poetry Slam (including airfares and accommodation.)

The guest poet this year is Ian Gibbins; "an Adelaide poet, working across diverse forms, including electronic music, digital media, and video."

VIC Poetry Slam State Final

Venue: Experimedia - State Library Victoria
328 Swanston Street, Melbourne VIC




Speak, scream, howl, whisper or even sing your poems, stories, lyrics or monologues in this electric live event where the audience is the judge.

Two finalists from each slam heat will compete in their state final, and the winner and runner-up from each state will compete at the national final in Sydney.

The Victorian state final will be hosted by Michelle Dabrowski, performance poet and slam champion.

The national champion wins an international writers festival tour prize pack worth up to $11,000!
