Unley Slam Heat, SA

The Unley heat was held at Unley Library on Thursday, 7th October. The event was hosted by Daniel Watson and was won by Brian Jay, with Jenny Toune as the runner up.

At 53, Jenny is a fairly new writer, who graduated in 2009 with a tertiary education. She is, however, no stranger to performing, with 15 years experience in professional dance.
When asked why she entered the slam, Jenny said, "Slams are irreverent & unpredictable. I entered because I like taking the piss out of my poetry and I have a short attention span for bad poetry."

APS: How did you feel performing your own writing?
JT: I’m a narcissist, so of course I enjoy it (providing I remember the words!!)

APS: Do you have a favourite style of writing or a favourite writer?
JT: Spare, lean, & experimental (ie: not the same old same old …). Too many favourite writers to mention.

APS: Do you think it is important for Australians to write and perform their own work and why?
JT: Yes.  More voices = inspiration to embrace anarchy.

Brian and Jenny are now through to the South Australian State Final!
