Raw, powerful and transformative, slam is the competitive art of performance poetry – Perth Slam presents a WA heat of the Australian Poetry Slam at Bunbury Fringe.

The prize? State finals for the top two. The ultimate prize? Performing at the Sydney Opera House and vying for a festival tour package potentially worth up to $20K.

Try something out of your comfort zone and get ready to Slam!

2025 was the first year that this national festival held a state heat in the regions.  It was the next step in raising the profile of poetry and spoken word, positioning the genre as an engaging and must-see performance.  The winner of our 2025 heat, Kym Dee, went on to win the state final and be part of the National Australian Poetry Slam Final at Sydney Opera House. 

Bunbury Fringe is paving the way for future regional poets to perform on a national stage, so come be entertained while supporting new, emerging talent.

This is a one-off heat as part of the Bunbury Fringe – there will be the usual THREE HEATS in August at the Rosemount Hotel in North Perth.
