IVAN RADIX

Ivan Radix is an Afro-Caribbean/Australian spoken word artist, performance poet, and workshop facilitator whose work has travelled across continents, connecting with audiences through stories of memory, ritual, mythology, and the enduring legacy of the transatlantic slave trade.

Born in the small island nation of Grenada, Ivan began writing poetry in his early teens, using words as a way to preserve the stories, traditions, beliefs, and voices of his family and culture. He moved to New York in the early 1970s, where the Black liberation movement and its emphasis on cultural empowerment profoundly influenced his artistic development.

His extensive travels have become an integral part of his creative practice, shaping the way he explores identity, memory, migration, and belonging across cultures and histories.

Ivan’s poetry has taken him to theatres, festivals, literary gatherings, community spaces, universities, poetry slams, and cultural events around the world, including performances in North America, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Myanmar, and the United Arab Emirates.

Intimate yet expansive, Ivan’s work delivers imagery with quiet simplicity; his voice draws audiences in and invites them to explore the very heart of his poetry.
