Australian Poetry Slam Youth empowers young people to write and perform their own stories. Organised by Word Travels, APS Youth brings exhilarating performances, interactive workshops and poetry slams to schools, libraries and communities around Australia. Our programs are available online or in-person.
APS Youth invites young people to share their stories, raps, performances, monologues and poems in front of their peers. Facilitated by professional performing writers, APS Youth participants gain valuable skills in creative writing, public speaking and self-expression.
APS Youth brings the honesty and energy of live performance to virtual and physical classrooms around Australia. INSPIRE, ENCOURAGE and EMPOWER young storytellers through exciting performances and interactive workshops for your school.
Programs are curriculum focused and based on the acclaimed teaching resource, Slam Your Poetry: Write a Revolution.
INSPIRE - POETRY SLAM SHOW
Bring a leading spoken word artist to your school. Their inspirational performance will have your students swapping rhymes in the halls and practising metaphors at lunch.
After the performance there will be an in-depth discussion and Q&A where students will learn about the process of writing and performing poetry live.

ENCOURAGE - POETRY SLAM WORKSHOP
Not your average writing workshop. With a focus on writing for performance, our Wordshops get your students excited and engaged with the writing process. Each student will create a new piece of poetry using their own experiences, community and identity as inspiration. These workshops teach your students new ways of expressing their creative ideas using live performance, writing techniques, and video references.
EMPOWER - SCHOOL SLAM EVENT
Combining the INSPIRE and ENCOURAGE programs, your students will experience the exhilarating poetry slam show followed by an interactive workshop in creative writing and performance. Finally, they will get to show off their new writing in their very own poetry slam competition!
